About
Editorial policy
This page sets out the rules the desk applies to its own reference articles.
Sources
Primary documents come first: treaties, court judgments, organisations’ own policies and statistics. Secondary reporting is used where no primary document exists, and is named as such. Every article lists its sources with links.
Figures and quotations
A figure, date or quotation appears only if it was read in the source. Quotations are kept short and attributed. The desk does not estimate, round up or extrapolate.
Corrections
If a statement is wrong or out of date, write to [email protected] with the page and the source. Corrected pages carry the date of the review.
Placed material
Pieces on The Wire are placed automatically and are labelled as such; they are not written or edited at the desk.
